Over the last several days a number of people have posted on social media that they have been approved as sponsors/sponsored in the new Parole program that is being implemented by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Most of the people benefiting from this program are already in the United States.
This parole program provides entry and work permits to the U.S., but Cubans also have the Cuban Adjustment Act under which they can become regular in only one year and a day.
Information About the New Parole Program
USCIS may require some time for data verification and approval, but according to information provided by independent media, this process may only require a single day. This process is fully automated and since its implementation for Venezuela it has been very successful, therefore it usually does not take long. If the coming cases progress at the same speed as the first ones, the travel permit may not take longer than a month.
Since the U.S. government announced on January 6 this new and safer migration procedure for Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans, the expectations have not faded. Until this new opportunity, Cubans were granted 20,000 visas per year for their family reunification and now, along with the abovementioned nearby countries, Cubans share another 30,000 monthly visas to enter U.S. territory and benefit from the parole program now available to them.
New Parole Program: Considerations by Experts
Back in early January, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas promised that this program would be just as successful for migrants from these countries of origin as it had been for Venezuelans until then. Mr. Mayorkas also outlined the key task of providing safe and organized routes so that people can reach the United States safely and without risking their lives and financial resources.
