As of 1 July 2023, a series of changes announced for the extension of the Cuban passport came into force. This previously announced measure introduced several changes designed to facilitate and extend the use and validity of this travel document.
The validity of the document is extended in the new passports to 10 years for those over 16 years of age and 5 years for minors.

Do I need to extend my passport?
The requirement to extend the Cuban passport is no longer compulsory, whether for passports issued prior to the measure or for those issued after its entry into force.
For passport applications still pending at the date when this measure was implemented, they were not halted, but continued in their normal course and adopted the new forms, as provided for in Decree 91 of 2023.
Under this measure, it will no longer be required to extend the passport either in Cuba or abroad. All Cubans will be allowed to enter Cuba with a valid passport or with or without an extension.
How much is the Cuban passport abroad? Does the price increase?
The Cuban passport is now cheaper and long-lasting in terms of cost. Besides eliminating the fees for extensions, the price of extensions at consulates has now also been reduced.
Eliminating the extension represents a saving of 90 to 180 USD/euros, depending on the country concerned.
Fees for the creation and renewal of the Cuban passport
The price of the Cuban passport is set at 180 dollars/euro for those over 16 years of age, and 140 dollars/euro for minors. The passport fee in Cuba remains at 2500 pesos.
