Working in Cuba as a Foreign Citizen

Nov 25 , 2024

Working in a foreign country is always challenging; adapting to a new culture, being away from loved ones, and even the language barrier can be negative factors for those who are willing to do so. However, many people emigrate in search of better job opportunities elsewhere in the world.

One of the basic requirements for working in a foreign country is to prove that you are qualified to do a particular job, although of course this is only required for jobs that require experience or high qualifications.

The most effective way to demonstrate the knowledge acquired to perform a specific job is to have academic credentials that support it and are legalized for use in the country where the job opportunity is located.

Essential Steps

To carry out this process, the person must legalize his or her documents in his or her country of origin so that they comply with international agreements and are valid in Cuba, and also translate them into Spanish for use in Cuba.

Once this part is completed, the person who is interested in working in Cuba must apply for a work permit that will allow him/her to do so.

How do I get a work permit to work in Cuba?

Para obtener un permiso de trabajo en Cuba debe:

Find an employer

First, you must have a job offer from a Cuban company, which will submit your application to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) for approval.

Gathering documentation

You will then need to provide MTSS authorization, a letter of invitation, transcripts, a criminal record, a valid passport, medical insurance, and recent photographs.

Apply for a visa

Finally, submit your application along with the required documents to the Cuban consulate in your country.

If your permit is granted, you will be able to practice your profession without major complications, remembering that it is very important not to violate Cuban regulations regarding the payment of taxes and the respect of labor rights and obligations in the country.

Duration of the work permit

The work permit is usually valid for up to five years and must be renewed approximately six months before expiration.
