Update on sponsor revenue for new Parole

May 19 , 2023

The new Parole that the U.S. government activated last January for Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans, has so far had good results and opinions from the beneficiaries. For this reason, sponsors continue to apply to bring with them family and friends who are citizens of these countries.

Information about the new Parole

Last March, an updated table was made public with the minimum income that a person must have in order to function as a sponsor and be able to apply for parole for a Cuban, Venezuelan or Nicaraguan citizen.

It is important to know that those who wish to apply as sponsors in the USA must submit an Affidavit of Financial Sponsorship. This implies a legal responsibility, from the economic point of view, on the beneficiary.

To perform this chart, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) uses the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Poverty Guidelines to get a picture of how much income and what conditions the sponsor must have to meet the needs of the prospective sponsored person.

The federal poverty level must be exceeded by at least 125% for the sponsor to be viable. In case your income does not reach or exceed this limit, you can calculate your financial capacity by reference to checking and savings accounts, stocks, property, etc.

Numeric requirements for the new Parole

If we take as a starting point the month of January -when this parole programwas first applied, the minimum income determined to apply as a sponsor has been increasing until reaching the figures in force since last March. In the January case the sponsor’s income statement should have been $22,887, for a 2-person household. Currently, for the same number of people, the figure amounts to $24,650.

The information is applicable only to applications performed as of March, since those prior to that date are subject to the provisions established up to the time of registration.
