Legalization of educational documents in Cuba

Aug 9 , 2024

The legalization of educational documents is a process widely used throughout the world, due to agreements between countries through international cooperation mechanisms. The aim is to ensure that studies carried out in one country do not lose their validity when migrating, thus establishing a common framework for the evaluation of study programs in different latitudes.

The legalization of educational documents for use abroad not only allows people to find jobs in line with their qualifications, but also allows them to find new educational opportunities in a new country based on their advanced education.

In the case of Cuba, the international framework is followed so that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the consulates, performs the task of certifying the validity of an educational document for use abroad.

Some of the educational documents that are issued in Cuba and that can be legalized are the following

  • Qualifications (undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate)
  • Certificate of marks
  • Syllabus
  • Theme Plan.

How to get an educational document legalized?

In order to obtain this service, the interested party or his representative must contact a legal service provider authorized to perform this type of legalization (Collective Law Offices, International Legal Consultancy, etc.).

The requirements are as follows:

  • Have the person’s identification with you
  • Stamps the value corresponding to each document.

Note 1: Payment for stamps can be made through the established electronic channels or in cash at the time of contracting the service. The amount to be paid depends on whether the applicant is a resident of the country or not; if the procedure is not performed in person, the cost in stamps is much higher.

  • Service fee (cash)
  • Original or photocopy of document to be legalized

Note 2: If you do not have the original or a copy of your document, you should request it by providing some of the following information to locate it: Volume or folio, name of issuing institution, faculty, address of institution, start or end date of studies, etc.

Procedures by the lawyer

Once the contract has been executed, the entire process is in the hands of the company where you made your legalization request.

The lawyer assigned to your case will submit the document to be legalized together with a formal request on behalf of the institution and the contract stating the beneficiary’s wish to be represented in the proceedings.

Delay times

Recently, after months of accumulated delays due to the increase in demand, the legalization process has been completed within the time period established in its terms and conditions: 10 working days. This is in addition to the time required by the lawyer to communicate with the educational institutions involved in the case of obtaining documents.
