Many citizens were concerned about the price rise of the Cuban passport or the limitations to buy one, so they approached the country’s procedure offices to check the accuracy of this news.
According to information recently reported, the ordinary Cuban passport is expected to double in price (from 2500 CUP to 5000) since the currency restructuring, and to be valid for ten years with no need for an extension every two years. In addition, rumours suggested the implementation of new requirements to obtain this document: a requirement to be of legal age to hold this document, and not to be older than 40 years of age, among others.
The Price of the Cuban Passport Will Not Rise
After this information was reported by different press media, the Dirección de Identificación, Inmigración y Extranjería (DIIE) of the Ministry of the Interior announced that the requirements for processing this travel document would be unchanged without any plans to raise its cost.
The migration authorities also urged people to ignore this kind of information unless reported by the relevant media or by the country’s official channels.
Such news came as a relief especially for those Cubans who are planning to apply for their travel document next year. If this price rise was indeed real, then the Cuban passport would become one of the most expensive in the world, despite its restricted movement rights because of the fact that most countries require visas for Cuban nationals.
