How do I apply for Cuban citizenship through marriage to a Cuban?
To apply, you must go to the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Foreigners (DIIE) of the Ministry of the Interior at one of its branches and submit a formal application, accompanied by the following documents
- Birth certificate of the applicant
- Cuban Marriage Certificate (legalized by the Ministry of Justice)
- National identity card or passport of the Cuban spouse
- Proof of continuous residence in Cuba for at least 2 years.
- Criminal Record Certificate issued in Cuba and in the country from which the person comes
- Spanish Language Certificate
An officer of this entity must conduct an interview with the applicant and subsequently verify the documents submitted.
Note 1: Depending on the results of this stage, further verifications or documents may be required in order to expand the knowledge of the case.
Upon completion of the formalities, the DIIE will have a decision on whether or not the application is approved. In case of approval, the beneficiary will have to take an oath of allegiance to the Republic of Cuba.
Note 2: The granting of Cuban citizenship by marriage is discretionary and may be denied if it is considered that the applicant does not meet the established requirements or if there are other circumstances that justify the denial.
