The Visa Lottery, which is held every year, keeps on hold thousands of Cubans registering in the hope of migrating to the United States. This week the applicants will know the result of the lottery, and the luckiest ones are expected to complete the process to finally travel to the United States.
The results of the 2024 visa lottery will be available as of May 6, 2023, and can be checked until September 30, 2023.
Due to the proximity of the date on which the results will be made public, the U.S. Department of State disclosed on its official Twitter account the only way to know the results of the Diversity Visas 2024:
“It’s almost time for the Diversity Visa 2024 selection! Starting May 6, 2023, at 12 pm. EDT, you will be able to check your entry status by entering your confirmation number on the official program page. This is the ONLY way to verify if you have been selected to participate.”
U.S. authorities have further stated that being selected for the “Bombo” (the name by which Cubans refer to the visa lottery) does not mean directly receiving a visa, but rather the possibility of making progress in the program’s selection process.
As it is explained in this information, you need to have your registration confirmation number to check the status of your application, and if you have lost it, here is how to retrieve it.
To Check Your Visa Lottery Application status:
- Click on the link: https://dvprogram.state.gov/
- Please click on “Check Status”/“Continue”/“Forget Confirmation Number”
- Fill in the recovery form with your registration details
DV-2024 results are known and you were approved in the visa lottery. Steps to be followed:
- Apply for an immigrant visa using the Diversity Visa program website.
- Complete and submit the DS-260 form to apply for an immigrant visa.
Here you may receive an email with an appointment for an interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
At the interview, you will find out if you have been approved for the requested visa.
The Visa Lottery provides 55,000 annual visas for permanent residents in the United States for citizens of certain eligible countries, including Cuba. Applications are open every year from October 5 through November 8.
