If you are a Cuban citizen resident in Cuba and while you are traveling abroad on a temporary trip and your passport has been lost, stolen or has expired, please note that you can apply for the Travel and Transit Document (DVT). This passport is issued in person and replaces the Cuban passport for a period of thirty days during which you may travel to Cuba only once and under these conditions.

In cases of humanitarian emergencies the Travel and Transit Document (DVT) is exceptionally granted by the Cuban immigration authorities for those who are cuban citizens emigrated or living abroad and whose passport is expired or lost. For this case, please submit a photo of a medical certificate from a close relative showing evidence of a serious medical condition, or a photo of a recent death certificate in case of a family member’s decease.

The Travel and Transit Document (DVT) is issued to allow the holder to enter the national territory within 30 days from the date of issuance of the document. Once in Cuba, in order to travel to the United States or any other nation, a new passport is required. To any Immigration office of the Ministry of the Interior should address the residents in Cuba to apply, as well as to the officesof Consultoría Jurídica Internacionallocated in Calle 22 #108 entre 1ra y 3ra, Miramar, La HabanaThe Cuban emigrants residing out of the national territory. The average waiting time to receive your new passport is 7-10 days.

Before issuing the Travel and Transit Document (DVT), the Cuban Consulate abroad will verify the identity of the citizen; the authorization will be issued within one to three days, since these procedures are considered “very urgent” at the Consulate.
