The Embassy of Cuba in the United States hereby responds to concerns expressed by Cubans residing in the United States, and hereby notifies:
- The Cuban Consular Office in Washington D.C. shall continue providing all consular services remotely, by mail or contracted agencies, in order to avoid the risk of Coronavirus infection to applicants and our officials. This measure will be in effect until there is a positive evolution of the epidemiological situation, which has worsened in the United States as a result of Covid-19.
- According to the announcement of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as of November 16 and until further notice, Cuban citizens residing in the national territory may return to the country, exceptionally, with their passport expired and without renewal. For nationals permanently residing abroad, they are required to have a valid Cuban passport to be able to travel to Cuba.
- As established by our authorities in Cuba, we will maintain, until further notice, the renewal automatic and free of charge for those Cuban citizens whose 24-month term has expired, as of March 19, 2020 and thereafter.
- Those who received the entry permit HE-11 by our Consular Office, with an issue date as of December 20, 2019, and were unable to travel to Cuba as a result of the border closure due to COVID-19, can enter Cuban national territory by making use of said HE-11 permit, despite the expiration of its validity. This benefit will be in effect until February 23, 2021.
- As published last November 14 in Cuban official gazette No. 64 (extraordinary version), Resolution No. 239 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices establishes the payment of a sanitary fee of US$30 or its equivalent in any other freely convertible currency, for all persons arriving in the country, whether Cuban or foreigners. The fixed fee includes not only the PCR test, but also the costs of the other sanitary protocols applied at the border. This regulation is in force as of December 1, 2020.
- The established rules of each of the airlines or charters regarding the passengers’ baggage allowance are taken into account. We once again call on all Cuban citizens living in the United States to be informed through the official sources and communication channels of our Embassy and Consulate (website and social networks) about the evolution of the epidemiological situation and the measures adopted by the authorities of our country. Please comply with the established hygienic-sanitary measures.
