Notifying the Cuban Consulate of a change of residence abroad

Jul 15 , 2024

When a Cuban emigrant stays in another country for a certain period of time, he/she must report to the Cuban consulate in the country where he/she is, since this institution is responsible for his/her security and must keep track of his/her movements in order to be able to represent him/her.

Based on this, Cubans residing in other countries must notify the Consulate if they are going to change domicile and therefore change address. This makes it easier for the Consulate to locate the Cuban citizen and send him/her notifications, important documents or urgent messages without much difficulty.

Note 1:This report should not be mistaken for the one made to the authorities of the country where the Cuban emigrant or resident is located, since the process is completely different and responds to different objectives.

Procedure for notifying the Cuban Consular Office of a change of address abroad

First of all, you will need to find out the Cuban Consulate closest to your new location, if there is one, because if there is not, you will need to report your new location to the same consulate you always had.

1- Collection of the necessary documents:

  • Cuban national identity card or passport
  • Residence permit or passport issued by the country in which you reside
  • Evidence of current address (utility bills, leases or bank statements)
  • Download the change of residence form (if available) from your consulate’s website.

2- Submit the application:

There are several ways to submit the application. It is advisable to find out which method is best according to the consulate. You can do this by mail, e-mail, or a personal visit to the consulate. In any case, you will need to submit the formal application form along with the required supporting documents.

Upon receipt of your application, the consulate will send you a confirmation by mail or e-mail.

General advice:

  • Contact the consulate: We recommend that you contact the consulate by phone or email prior to submitting your documents to confirm specific requirements and procedures.
  • Update your information: It is important that you keep your residency information up to date with the consulate, as this information will be used to contact you in case of an emergency or to provide you with important information about Cuba.
  • Verify the information: Make sure the information you provide is accurate and complete.
  • Keep the documentation: Keep a copy of the documentation you sent and the confirmation you received.
